Whether it's moving from anger to tears to jokes within the span of a few minutes - be it in conversation or in the privacy of your bedroom - or processing what happened on social media or doing literally anything to distract yourself from memories bubbling up as you try to go about your day, Coel unflinchingly captures the survivor's life in an honest and understandable manner. As a survivor watching this series, I immediately understood and felt aligned with the chaotic journey Arabella is thrust into, as she attempts to re-ground herself in the wake of her attack. What I May Destroy You nails extremely well is the messiness of recovering from rape and sexual assault. ![]() Over the course of the 12 episodes which make up I May Destroy You's first season, we watch as Arabella is utterly transformed by the trauma she's endured, attempting to heal in therapy and support groups, seeking comfort from lifelong friends Terry ( Weruche Opia) and Kwame ( Paapa Essiedu), beginning a police investigation into her rape, and speaking out about what happened to her and the culture which allows for rape and sexual assault to be perpetuated. I May Destroy You, which tells the story of a Millennial author, Arabella (Coel), whose life is irrevocably changed after a night out with a close friend and some mutuals ends with her stumbling home, blacking out, and forced to confront flashbacks of the night the next day. #I may destroy you episode 6 seriesThis time around, those hats are: Creator, executive producer, writer, and series star. #I may destroy you episode 6 tvI May Destroy You marks Coel's second TV outing where she is wearing numerous hats. Coel returns back to television in a major way with the confrontational, crackling, and very timely HBO drama I May Destroy You. #I may destroy you episode 6 movieSince then, Coel has popped up on TV ( Black Mirror, Black Earth Rising), a movie musical ( Been So Long), and, briefly, in a major movie franchise ( Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi). Now I can't cancel my HBO subscription, I can't.It's been five years since Michaela Coel landed on our radar with her offbeat comedy Chewing Gum. I was so sad it wasn't brought back for a season 2 but if this is why, it this is the direction !! She is a true inspiration.Īnyway I put this review here just to say what I want to say about it rn, this episode was more of what I love about this show there are some developments and resolutions and I am pleased to meet her family too - no spoilers I have been a fan of Micheals Coel since the show about monsters a while back. I wish I could write better, this deserves a well put review. I grew up in a time when exploring these concepts will have felt disrespectful I can't believe I said that but it's true. It took a long time for me to get in board with women's 'issues' (for lack of a better term), being a woman myself one would think I would be in at jump but I had trouble making the leap. It explores what we normally brush off or conceal.Ī series that starts a conversation. It makes me glad for the world we live and the times changing. ![]() I would say that this is a brave show but it's more than that it's educational and it does uncomfortable in the way it's meant to be. this show is exceptional the rapport between friends the dialog the content all sound so technical for a show that genuine, that feels. ![]()
